The Minnesota Vikings are going to conclude their first batch of interviews soon, and it looks like the final interviews will come today. ESPN’s Adam Schefter already reported that the Vikings will interview San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman today, and Roman is one of the best coaches available on the open market. He does a good job of developing quarterbacks and is a creative play-caller, so the Vikings would be in a solid hands with Roman as the OC.
Roman, however, isn’t the only 49ers coach that the Vikings will be interviewed today, as FOX Sports’s Alex Marvez reports that the Vikes will interview 49ers defensive line coach Jim Tomsula, who has had some minor head coaching experience in the past. Tomsula has been with the 49ers organization for quite some time, and he’s one of the most highly respected DL coaches in the NFL.
Rick Spielman and the Vikings organization have a high amount of respect for the 49ers organization, and I’m sure they aren’t the only ones who respect the 49ers front office and coaching staff. Roman is a fully legitimate head coaching candidate and is likely a top candidate for the Vikings- there has been smoke between the Vikings and Roman for about a week now- while Tomsula is a more interesting interview. He doesn’t seem to be a legitimate head coaching candidate, but I wonder if he could be the Vikings replacement at defensive coordinator if they were to fire Alan Williams.
