After meeting with Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator a couple of times for interviews, the Minnesota Vikings have decided to name Mike Zimmer their head coach, per Ian Rapoport. Zimmer had been a top coaching candidate for the last few years and he finally was able to break through into the coaching scene. This will be his first opportunity as a head coach and he will get luxury of working with the best running back in the league, Adrian Peterson.
Zimmer is a defensive minded coach, so we need to see who he surrounds himself with on the coaching staff. Who will he bring in as an offensive coordinator? There are rumors that he is considering bringing in Norv Turner to be his offensive coordinator. His roster needs a quarterback in a bad way, but it has weapons at the skill positions on offense. Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings are very good threats at the wide receiver position.
On the defensive side, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Jared Allen is a free agent and will likely step away to find a club that is closer to winning a championship.
The Bengals will be losing their top signal caller on defense. The Bengals defense was one of the tops in the league and Zimmer was able to tame down a lot of personalities on that roster. Who is going to step in an call the plays on defense now? The Bengals will have a new offensive coordinator and new defensive coordinator next season. Lots of change on that coaching staff in Cincinnati.
