Peyton Manning picked up the phone and gave a call over to the Detroit Lions in order to endorse his former head coach Jim Caldwell and the Lions almost didn’t pick up that call, per Detroit Free Press. What would have happened if Martin Mayhew didn’t pick up the phone? Would Caldwell still be the head coach of the Lions?

Mayhew didn’t recognize the phone number when the phone rand and he almost didn’t pick it up. Why pick up those numbers? Those usually are bill collectors or someone selling some random crap anyway… right?

This time it was Peyton Manning. He was selling something. He was selling Jim Caldwell to the Lions.

Now Caldwell is the new head coach and has to work with Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense. He has the best receiver in the league in Calvin Johnson and a solid running game with Reggie Bush. The team has talent on offense. The team will be expected to shine on the offensive side of the football. The expectations are high and Caldwell will be expected to find success quickly with the roster and the team.
