Reports on Rex Ryan’s new deal with the New York Jets just broke on the news wire and some of the details of his new contract are getting released to the public now. One of the details: Rex Ryan’s deal will not be guaranteed past the 2015 season, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.
Ryan’s original deal was set to end after the 2014 season, so if he were to coach under that deal he would have been on a lame-duck status. His deal now will be guaranteed into the 2015 season, but if his team were to stumble in that 2015 season, he could be released without the Jets dealing with many penalties.
Ryan will need to produce within the next couple of seasons or he will find himself on the hot seat all over again. The team has missed out on the playoffs in the last 3 seasons and the patience is getting thin. Time to get the Jets back into the tournament and make some noise in the AFC.
