The Atlanta Falcons added former Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli into their front office today. Pioli will serve as an Assistant General Manager to Thomas Dimitroff. Pioli was on NBC’s Football Nicght in America last season after he was fired from his job with the Chiefs and now he will be helping build the Falcons roster.
During his tenure with the Chiefs, his biggest downfall was his selections at quarterback. He chose Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn as the guys under center and that led to a 2-14 record before he was fired. As soon as the new regime in Kansas City took over, they brought in a stable quarterback, Alex Smith, and the team was into the playoffs again.
Pioli was able to assemble some talent on the roster though. During the 2-14 season, the Chiefs had six players selected to the Pro Bowl: SS Eric Berry, RB Jamaal Charles, P Dustin Colquitt, LB Tamba Hali, LB Derrick Johnson and LB Justin Houston. He knows how to assemble some talent on a roster, he just has no idea how to bring in a good quarterback. Hopefully Matt Ryan is a good enough quarterback for him.
Thomas Dimitroff and Scott Pioli worked with the New England Patriots for 6 seasons in their front office and now they are reunited again.
