Ryan Mallett is in Houston. That doesn’t mean anything… Or does it?
Could Ryan Mallett meet up with his former coach Bill O’Brien while he is in town? Could the Texans be interviewing the quarterback to see if they should make a move on him. The Texans would have to make a trade with the New England Patriots in order to bring him to town, but there are some ties there. Bill O’Brien was the offensive coordinator for Mallett during a couple of seasons while he was there.
The New England Patriots definitely are dangling Mallett out there as trade bait. His contract ends after the 2014 season and would be free to sign with any team. The Patriots would like to get some value for him before he is able to walk away for free. Mallett won’t get many opportunities to play for the Patriots with Tom Brady under center.
Could the Texans be interested in Mallett? The Texans have the top pick in the draft and would have their choice of any of those quarterbacks available in the draft. If they bring in Mallett to run the team, they could then use their draft pick for Jadeveon Clowney.
Ryan Mallett’s nickname is “Big Tex.”
