Free agent inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson was a Cleveland Browns cap casualty, and he’s received significant interest around the league since. The Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans have all been linked to the 30-year-old, who is scheme versatile and is known as a great locker room guy. The Titans need a linebacker as badly as anyone, Jackson only makes sense if the Dolphins really dislike Philip Wheeler, the Cardinals are looking at Jackson as a backup plan with Karlos Dansby seemingly intent on getting as much money as possible on the open market, and the Broncos have a hole opened up at MLB this offseason that Jackson would fill out perfectly.
The Denver Post’s Mike Klis reports that D’Qwell Jackson was “impressed” with the Broncos following his visit yesterday, and his agent Brian Mackler stated that the Maryland product had a “great visit”. His agent also said that Jackson isn’t ready to decide, and he is visiting the Miami Dolphins and one other team after his visit with the Broncos. Mackler also told Klis that Jackson will likely make his decision at the end of the week, and he even met up with Peyton Manning yesterday.
Jackson’s best two fits seem to be the Broncos and the Titans, because the Titans are in a strong position to pay him a significant sum of money due to their need at LB. He’s also a much better fit as a 4-3 MLB than a 3-4 ILB, and that’s also the scheme that the Broncos run. They could definitely use a veteran LB like Jackson, and the fact that the Broncos are the best team in the AFC makes them an even more appealing landing spot for Jackson, who would undoubtedly love to play for an elite team and help the Broncos gun for a Super Bowl after spending his entire career with the Browns.
