The Tennessee Titans biggest needs this offseason are in the front seven, and this will allow new defensive coordinator Ray Horton to find the players and fits he wants for his hybrid 3-4 scheme. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Titans build their D, but it’s clear that they need better pass rushers and linebackers going forward.
According to the Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Ravens impending free agent 3-4 DE Arthur Jones is “expected to be in heavy demand” this offseason, and a source tells Wilson that the Tennessee Titans “could be a strong fit”.
Jones would immediately give Horton a very good 3-4 DE, and I’m sure plenty of teams around the league eye Jones as a potential breakout star in 2014. He recorded 52 tackles and four sacks last season, and that’s only a glimpse of what the 27-year-old can bring to the table. 4-3 teams should also be interested in him as a defensive tackle, and his versatility should also be appealing to Horton and the Titans. He does a solid job of rushing the passer, and I am a big fan of what he can do in run defense at the position. The Titans biggest need is at LB and Karlos Dansby and Daryl Smith should thus be the top free agents on their list, but Jones is someone who should also be near the top of their proverbial free agency wishlist.
