Baltimore Ravens defensive end Arthur Jones is one of the most talked-about impending free agents during the legal tampering period, as several teams have already expressed interest in signing the 27-year-old. Jones is a solid run defender and pass rusher, as he recorded four sacks and overall 50 tackles last season. Heading into the prime of his career, Jones is a potential breakout star, and his scheme versatility only increases his list of suitors.
Per a source close to the Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson, you can add the Green Bay Packers to the list of Jones’s suitors, and Wilson reported earlier that this list includes the Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings.
I have a feeling the Vikings can be crossed off the list, as the team already spent $42.5 million over five seasons to re-sign Everson Griffen. Even though Jones fits as a 4-3 DT and not a 4-3 DE, I doubt the Vikings would spend a significant amount of money for another top player on the defensive line; they need to focus on getting help at cornerback and quarterback.
The Packers also have interest in Lamarr Houston, who is one of the top free agents available and would be a great fit as a 3-4 DE. Jones would be an even better fit there, and he and Mike Daniels could form a very talented DE duo as a three-man front for the Packers. Keep an eye on this one, but I think the early favorite for Jones is the Tennessee Titans.
