Baltimore Ravens impending free agent 3-4 defensive end Arthur Jones is going to be one of the hottest commodities on the free agent market, and he’s already receiving plenty of interest during the legal tampering period. Per league sources close to the Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson, Jones has received interest from the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, and others.
The Vikings and Redskins are new teams to add to the list, and one of the things that makes Jones such an attractive free agent is his versatility. He can play as a 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE, and that’s part of the reason why the Titans look like the best fit for him on paper; Ray Horton runs a hybrid scheme, but it’s one that’s mostly a 3-4 scheme.
With Everson Griffen and Jared Allen set to hit the free agent market, the Vikings could use some more help on the defensive line. The Redskins make plenty of sense as a landing spot, as they run a 3-4 defense and could use a player with Jones’s solid pass rushing skills and high quality run defense. Jones is a potential breakout star, and his upside is also intriguing. Although the Redskins biggest needs are in the secondary, they are also in the hunt for an upgrade on the defensive line.
