The New Orleans Saints was able to land the top safety in free agency after they lost their starting safety to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. The Saints have reached a 6-year deal with Jairus Byrd, per Adam Schefter.
The Saints are going to have a sick back end of the secondary. They will have one of the best safeties roaming around at free safety with newly acquired Jairus Byrd and they will also have Kenny Vaccaro in his second season with the team. Vaccaro is a rising star and is used all over the field.
Rob Ryan must be loving life thinking of all the different things that he can do with a couple of safeties like that in his secondary. He will be looking to bring the heat on quarterbacks and will let Byrd roam free and pick off any ducks that float in his direction because of all the penetration the team generates with the pass rush.
Nice job of the Saints bringing in the talent. This likely means that Darren Sproles will get released off the roster sooner in order to free up some room under the salary cap.
