T.J. Ward signs with Denver Broncos

Former Cleveland Browns strong safety T.J. Ward is one of the elite free agents in this year’s class, and the AFC Championship have snagged the second-best SS in the NFL today. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Denver Broncos have signed Ward, and I’m sure financial details will be disclosed shortly. I’m also sure that nobody is surprised by this news, as the Broncos have been rumored to be going after Ward for quite some time, and the USA Today’s Tom Pelissero actually predicted yesterday that the Broncos would end up with him.

The Broncos now have one of the league’s best safety duos in free safety Rahim Moore and T.J. Ward at strong safety, as Moore is a very good safety in deep coverage. When he went down with a season-ending knee injury, the Broncos deep coverage was clearly vulnerable, and they were prone to getting burned with Mike Adams at safety. If they can re-sign Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, then the Broncos could have one of the NFL’s best secondaries with DRC, elite slot corner Chris Harris Jr., Ward, the underrated Moore, and in-the-box ace Duke Ihenacho as the third safety.

It’s difficult not to love this signing on paper for the Broncos, and the rich certainly got richer with this move. Teams like the St. Louis Rams will now have to gun for Jairus Byrd, and it will be interesting to see where the elite FS lands.
