The Washington Redskins will get the first bid into the DeSean Jackson sweepstakes. ProFootballTalk.com reports that the team will host Jackson at their facilities on Monday. Jackson was released by the Eagles this past week.
This could be a good thing for the Redskins because they will be at the front of a long line of teams looking to schedule a visit with the wide receiver. If Jackson ends up signing with Washington, it would undoubtably be huge upgrade for the team. Quarterback Robert Griffin III is coming off of the worst season of his career and he needs some help. Imagine the Redskins offense: Jackson lined up across from Pierre Garçon, along with running back Alfred Morris in the backfield behind Griffin III. The quarterback has to be drooling over the opportunity, and so is the Redskins faithful. Also, he would be able to play his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, twice a year if he signed with Washington.
Washington isn’t pushing for Jackson as hard as teams like Oakland (who recently started a #DJaxToOakland trend on twitter) and Buffalo, but they will still get the first crack at the Pro-Bowl free agent. Their interest in him was first released earlier today. It will be a busy week for the Jackson, and it starts with a flight to Washington.
