Browns owner, Jimmy Haslam, says that the team has a “big list” of rookie quarterbacks that they will privately workout, according to ProFootballTalk.com. Haslam says that he will not join new coach Mike Pettine or GM Ray Farmer to these workouts, but he did say that they are bringing in a descent amount.
This is a good sign for Browns fans seeing how the team did not talk to a single quarterback during the combine. It seemed as if they were going to do the unthinkable, pass on a quarterback with the number 4 overall pick in May’s draft. But, all those fears seem to be quieted now that they team is going to do some private workouts.
They have Brian Hoyer as their number one guy on the depth chart, and he believes that he will win the starting role after camp, but camp is a long, long way away. In my opinion, their backs are against the wall, the need to draft a quarterback. They are in a fantastic spot to land one of the nations best rookies, and they can add some support as well because they also have a late 1st round pick from the Colts from the Trent Richardson trade.
No one really knows what Cleveland’s intentions are, and we won’t know truly until May’s draft, but the fans want change, and this is a good sign that they will be looking to call a quarterback when they are on the clock.
