The Rams have a lot of options with the number 2 overall pick in this years NFL Draft. One of those options would be drafting Clemson’s phenom wide out, Sammy Watkins. Watkins is scheduled to visit St. Louis today, and will also have a private workout with the team on Friday, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
The Rams General Manager Les Snead and Head Coach Jeff Fisher have both said that they feel the receivers they have on their roster are good enough, but how scary would that offense be with Watkins? Watkins is the true number 1 receiver that the Rams have been begging for since the days with Torry Holt.
This offseason, the Rams signed veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt to a one-year deal, but his days of being a number 1 receiver on a team is behind him for the most part and the Rams need someone to fill that role. Watkins is widely considered the best wide reviving prospect since Julio Jones and A.J. Green, and look how well they have played since being drafted. Not only that, but the Falcons and Bengals arguably not playoff teams without them.
The Rams are very close to being strongly competitive in the NFC West, and the addition of Watkins would give them a respectable chance in the division. Odds are that Rams pass on Watkins, but maybe after this visit, they may change their minds.
