Khalil Mack visiting Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have one of the most talented defensive lines in the league with the incredibly gifted defensive tackle duo of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, as well as high-upside second-year pro Ziggy Ansah, who was a top first-round pick in last year’s draft. The Lions are expected to draft a top pass-catcher with the tenth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but some still believe that the Lions could add another piece to the defensive side of the ball. If that’s the case, then they would go after a top-notch cornerback like Justin Gilbert, but wouldn’t it be crazy if the Lions somehow found a way to take Kahlil Mack?

There’s just about no chance of the Lions drafting Mack tenth overall, because he probably won’t slip past the top five. I think the Jacksonville Jaguars are a very strong possible landing spot for the former Buffalo star, but the Houston Texans have been mentioned as a darkhorse before and the Oakland Raiders could even scoop him up. Heck, the Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings, and Atlanta Falcons are the 6-9 picks and could find value in Mack.

It’s always fun to think up these kinds of scenarios, and it looks like the Lions are at least thinking about it, too. According to official site beat writer Tim Twentyman, the Lions have Mack in for a pre-draft visit today, and it will be interesting to see what they are able to learn out of him. I think they will take someone like Odell Beckham Jr. or Mike Evans (he might not last there, though) with the ninth pick, but I guess you could slot in Mack just below Sammy Watkins as a pipe dream pick.
