New Pick: Will Smith

2004 Pick: Reggie Williams

In the mid-2000s, the Jaguars remained competitive in the AFC despite missing on several skill position players in the first round. Among those misses was their 2004 pick, Reggie Williams, a wideout who never broke 60 catches or 700 yards in any of his five years with the Jags.

Instead of Williams, Jacksonville would have been best served to go with what they knew and strengthen their biggest strength, which was the D-Line. Under Jack Del Rio, the identity of the Jaguars started with their two massive defensive tackles, Marcus Stroud and John Henderson. Adding a speed-oriented pass rusher in Smith to that fold would have given the Jags one of the more dominant front fours of that time.

Even though he’s no longer with New Orleans, Smith was a Pro Bowler for the Saints and was their best pass rusher on the 2009 Super Bowl team. You’d take that over Reggie Williams.
