New Pick: Darnell Dockett
2004 Pick: Dunta Robinson
With the tenth and final pick in this Re-Draft, we’re leaving the first round for only the second time to get Darnell Dockett, whom the Cardinals grabbed in Round 3. Although Robinson was a solid corner for six seasons in Houston, the more high impact choice would have been Dockett, a versatile defensive tackle.
I’m old school, and I’ve said it already in this Re-Draft, but teams should build from the lines out in the draft. Dockett has been one of the mainstays on an Arizona D that’s been pretty solid in recent years. After having a breakout 2007, Dockett’s rise continued as the Cardinals made their Super Bowl appearance the next season. As a run-stopper who can still get to the QB, Dockett has been the foundation, along with Calais Campbell, on Arizona’s D-Line.
It seemed like the Texans were picking high every year from 2002 to 2010 or so. Perhaps more picks like Dockett over Robinson would have sped up their long road to competitiveness.
