The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the suitors for Johnny Manziel in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, though the sheer amount of rumors linking different teams to Manziel today have made it seem like just about everyone is in play for Manziel in some way or another. I mean, even the New York Giants were mentioned as a team willing to at least consider the former Texas A&M Aggies star quarterback.

But the Jaguars have been linked to Manziel a few times before, despite the general belief that the Jags are looking to draft a “safe” prospect in the first with their eyes fixed on the quarterback position in the second round. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier today that Manziel will likely go in the 3-13 range, and he named the Jaguars as one of Manziel’s potential suitors in that region of the draft (he also mentioned the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and St. Louis Rams at 13).
Now, Schefter is reporting, via Rotoworld, that the Jaguars are “absolutely intrigued” by the high-risk, high-reward signal-caller, and the team “will consider” taking him with the third overall pick. As usual, the word “consider” is incredibly vague, because it doesn’t really tell us how much the team will consider him, and just about every player is “considered” by a team to some degree. But Schefter never throws something at the wall to see if it sticks, so watch closely for Manziel to be picked by the Jaguars. It would be a risky move, but the Jaguars could have built up all of this “we won’t take a risky QB or a QB early” stuff in order to smokescreen teams with the intent of drafting Manziel third overall. It’s unlikely, but it’s worth watching for closely. I still think Khalil Mack is their best option at No. 3, so we’ll see if he’s available there.
