The Onside Kick: Did Colin Kaepernick Deserve $110 Million In New Deal?

This week on the podcast, Ricky Widmer and Dave Oster take a closer look at the new contract extension for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick signed a six-year, $110 million extension last Thursday and is now the 12th-richest quarterback in the NFL today.

“So this structure gives us room to try extensions with my teammates, right?” – Colin Kaepernick

Ricky and Dave look at the new contract for Kaepernick and debate whether or not he deserves the big payout. They also talk about how he looked to structure the deal so that the team could lock up other assets.

Next, the guys look at comments made by San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis about Jimmy Graham. Davis believes that Graham should be able to be paid as a wide receiver instead of a tight end.

They also look at the “wide receiver or tight end” debate as a whole and talk about who the position of a player might not matter when it comes to the amount a team should pay their TEs.

Finally, Ricky and Dave close the poscast talking about the possible location for the 2015 NFL Draft. Right now, it looks like the NFL Draft will need to move from New York City due to scheduling issues at Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden.

The guys look at the locations in the running (Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Boston) to host the 2015 NFL Draft.
