Patrick Peterson says Julio Jones, Roddy White the best WR duo in the league

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson won’t be working on returns next season, as the Cards are looking to protect their superstar CB from injuries as they make an even bigger investment on him. He isn’t quite at the level of Darrelle Revis or Richard Sherman, but he’s a sure-fire CB1 in his own right and could form one of the league’s best CB duos if offseason addition Antonio Cromartie can get back to his 2012 form replacing Revis from injury after a horrible 2013 (he dealt with some nagging injuries as well). Cromartie and Peterson are both athletic CBs who have some of the best ball skills in the game, and the young safety duo of Tyrann Mathieu and Deone Bucannon should make the Cardinals secondary all the more dangerous.

As Peterson and Cromartie are looking to form one of the league’s top cornerback duos, the former LSU standout took the time to name the best wide receiver duo in the NFL. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter, Peterson agreed with Julio Jones that the Atlanta Falcons WR tandem of Jones and Roddy White is the league’s finest, “The best duo in the NFL, I’d probably have to say that’s pretty accurate. Both of those guys are Pro Bowl caliber receivers, both of them are All-Pro caliber receivers. Both of them do a lot of good things for Matt Ryan to make his job a little easier. But to say they are the best tandem, I’d probably have to say that he’s probably right.”

The competition for the title is pretty stiff, as Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall were absolute magic last season, and the new duo of Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate cannot be underrated either (mostly Tate on the underrated part). Jones missed most of the 2013 season with an injury, but he was the top performing receiver in the league before he went down. White also saw his season ruined by a number of nasty, nagging injuries, but he looked like his old self near the end of the year when the ailments mostly subsided. With an offseason of rest and their incredible 2012 season fresh in their minds, the Falcons WR duo looks ready to dominate again in 2014.
