Former Tampa Bay Bucs and Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy has spoken up on the Michael Sam story and shared his thoughts. Here is what he had to say via the Tampa Tribune:
"“I wouldn’t have taken him,’’ said former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy, now an analyst for NBC. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.“It’s not going to be totally smooth … things will happen.’’ – tbo.com"
This will open up a can of worms with the media. The media has been itching for a story with the offseason and now they have a little something to go after.
Michael Sam will be reporting to camp on Tuesday with the St. Louis Rams rookies. The media will keep their eye on all things that happen in that camp and especially keep a close eye on Michael Sam.
Until the media and league is comfortable with an openly gay player in the locker room, things like this will continue to be a topic of disciussion. Dungy spoke his mind and that is what he is paid to do as an analyst. Now he likely will get drilled by speaking his belief.
What do you think of what Dungy said?
