Denver Broncos superstar wide receiver Demaryius Thomas attending team meetings yesterday and took his physical before the start of training camp, but ESPN NFL Nation’s Jeff Legwold reports that Thomas won’t be on the field for training camp practices until Monday after being excused by the team following the passing of his grandmother. Broncos head coach John Fox stated that the team’s thoughts and prayers are with Thomas and his family, and I’m sure everyone hearing this news feels the same way.

Thomas is expected to get back on the field on Monday, and I love how Fox summed things up by saying his star wideout “is where he needs to be”, because it’s so true. While he’s an integral part of this Broncos team and one of the league’s elite receivers, they don’t need him for the first few days of training camp; it doesn’t matter. He knows the offense and he knows Peyton Manning. But his family needs him at the funeral services for his grandmother, and he needs some time for himself and the grieving process before returning.
Again, our thoughts and prayers are extended to Thomas and family in this difficult time. Thomas’s absence for a few days will give the likes of Cody Latimer and Isaiah Burse even more reps, and both rookies will undoubtedly benefit from the extra practice.
