The Onside Kick: NFL Preseason Week One Recap

After talking some fantasy football last week, the Onside Kick returns to actual football as the NFL preseason kicked off this past Thursday.

This week on podcast, Ricky Widmer and Dave Oster recap and discuss the first full week of preseason games in the NFL.

Here’s what on tap in the podcast:

  • The world got their first looks at Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, and Teddy Bridgewater in actual NFL gameplay. Bortles looked impressive. Manziel and Bridgewater weren’t as good. Should Jacksonville consider Bortles as a regular season week one starter?
  • Both the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers have story lines at the running back position. Will Lache Seastrunk or Silas Redd make the Redskins’ roster? Is Carlos Hyde a solid option as the #2 back behind Frank Gore?
  • Does Houston have a problem? The Texans got smashed by the Arizona Cardinals in their first preseason game.
  • Both Michael Vick and Geno Smith got to show us what they’ve each got in order to win the starting job in New York? Who impressed, and who did not?
  • Brandin Cooks was high on most draft boards. How much could he help the Saints’ offense in 2014?
  • Will Zach Miller be a significant part of the Chicago Bears’ offense this season?
  • A look ahead at week two of preseason games in the NFL.
