The Cleveland Browns have settled on their starting quarterback to start out the season. They are rolling with Brian Hoyer to be the starter to open the year as the starter. The competition was ugly between Hoyer and Johnny Manziel in the first couple of preseason games. It just shows that Manziel needs some time to develop and needs some time to learn.

Manziel has enjoyed instant success everywhere he has stepped, so this is new territory for the rookie. It could be a humbling experience for him and could motivate him even more.

While Manziel is getting the reps at practice and working to get onto the field, Hoyer is the veteran on the field taking the hits. If he has success, then management will look great for making the decision. If he stumbles in the first few weeks of the season, the team then can turn to the rookie to provide the team a spark. The fans want to see Manziel on the field immediately, but it will be better for Manziel’s development if he sat back for a few and watched some games.
