Geno Atkins ‘fine’ after being carted off

Cincinnati Bengals superstar defensive tackle Geno Atkins is one of the league’s best defensive players, and his unfortunate season-ending injury last season severely hurt the Bengals despite their depth and talent on the defensive side of the ball. His torn ACL caused him to miss some preseason time as he recovered, but he was always expected to play in Week 1 and did indeed play in the opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

  • Per a source close to Pro Football Talk, Atkins is “fine” after being carted off the field late in today’s game with an injury. PFT adds that he needed to be helped into the locker room, so this could have been a serious injury. It sounds like the Bengals were just being cautious with one of their most valuable players, and it would be wise to watch for more updates just in case; Atkins is that good of a player.

Atkins recorded a tackle and a QB hit on Joe Flacco, as the Bengals got the season off on the right foot with a 23-16 win over their rivals. The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to squeeze by Brian Hoyer and the Cleveland Browns in a nail-biter, and the AFC North looks incredibly competitive this year thanks to improvements across the board. The Steelers and Ravens will be very stiff competition, but the Bengals are still the favorites.
