Jordan Cameron aggravated shoulder injury

Cleveland Browns star tight end Jordan Cameron is the focal point of the passing attack, and this is something that was essentially guaranteed once Josh Gordon was confirmed to be suspended for the season. There are rumblings that Gordon could end up getting his suspension truncated to just a handful of games due to negotiations between the NFL and NFLPA, but it’s clear that Cameron is a crucial piece of this offense either way. After hauling in 80 receptions for 917 yards and seven touchdowns in last season’s breakout campaign, he started the 2014 season with just two receptions for 47 yards on five targets in a nail-biter loss to the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.

  • Cameron’s stat line doesn’t look as impressive as it should thanks to a low volume of targets and a shoulder injury that forced him to exit the game in the third quarter. It didn’t seem like a serious injury at first, but he didn’t return. His status for next week’s game is cloudy, especially since the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot reports that Cameron stated he aggravated the shoulder injury he suffered in training camp and “doesn’t know” the severity of the injury. Per Cabot, Cameron will have his shoulder checked out tomorrow.

Very early on in training camp, Cameron sprained his AC joint, which is a painful injury but one that players can play through after missing perhaps a week or two (Michael Floyd slogged- and starred- through it last year near the end of the season). It will be interesting to see what Cameron’s injury is, because it isn’t necessarily another AC sprain. The Browns can’t afford to lose him for long, so I would actually expect them to err on the side of caution with their high-impact TE.
