Michael Crabtree a ‘true’ game-time decision

The San Francisco 49ers will open up the regular season this afternoon against the Dallas Cowboys, and Colin Kaepernick has a golden opportunity to start off the first season of his new contract with a bang. He has a vast array of weapons around him and is facing the league’s most porous, beat-up defense. That said, he could miss his favorite target in the opener for the second straight time, as there’s still some doubt as to whether or not No. 1 receiver Michael Crabtree will be able to play today.

  • FOX Sports’s Jay Glazer reports, via Rotoworld, that Crabtree is a “true” game-time decision against the Cowboys, so fantasy owners wondering if they should start the WR1 against an awful secondary need to be wary that he isn’t out of the woods. Crabtree’s status was initially placed in some doubt a few days ago, but it seemed like all concerns were eased as the week rolled onward. CSN Bay Area expected him to play today, but Glazer is one of the most reliable insiders in the business and needs to be trusted, especially since his report is more recent.

All eyes will be peeled on Crabtree’s status, but Kaepernick should still have a huge day against the Cowboys secondary, as he has Anquan Boldin, Vernon Davis, Stevie Johnson, Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington, and Brandon Lloyd on his side. It’s a huge difference from last year’s catch of weapons, which was mostly just restricted to Boldin and Davis carrying the passing attack for most of the year. Crabtree’s calf strain sounds pretty serious, so he’s a full-blown 50-50 shot at playing and is officially listed as questionable on the 49ers injury report.
