Jadeveon Clowney out 4-6 weeks
Houston Texans rookie outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney already looks like one of the most electrifying players in the league, but we didn’t get to see any of that yesterday against the Washington Redskins, as his day was cut short. It was initially feared that Clowney had suffered an MCL injury, but those shifted to reports of a torn lateral meniscus that will need arthroscopic surgery and a 4-6 week timeline.

That is indeed the case, as Texans head coach Bill O’Brien announced today that Clowney has indeed torn his lateral meniscus and will be out for 4-6 weeks with the knee injury. It’s a significant blow to a Texans defense that is carried by a few stalwarts, and it means that they will need some more Herculean efforts from J.J. Watt, who dominated the Washington Redskins in the passing game yesterday.
The Texans outside pass rush will suffer greatly without the first overall pick, as Whitney Mercilus and Brooks Reed fail to consistently play up to their potential. Both guys are better off playing roles behind a pass rusher with more star power like Clowney. But once he’s back, he should be better than ever, though injury concerns are beginning to become a big worry for Clowney moving forward, as he dealt with his fair share of injury woes in college.
