Kansas City Chiefs working out Jerel Worthy, others
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of a nightmarish Sunday, as they dropped a game they should have won against the Tennessee Titans and generally looked lifeless on offense behind awful blocking. The coaching staff is deservedly under fire for not giving the ball to their two best offensive players in Jamaal Charles and Travis Kelce, and this was exacerbated by Dwayne Bowe’s suspension. But the worst losses were on the injury front, as star LB Derrick Johnson, who is of indispensable value, and underrated run-stuffing DE Mike DeVito are both out for the season.

CBS Sports’s Jason La Canfora reports (the Kansas City Star’s Terez A. Paylor confirmed this) that the Kansas City Chiefs are working out former Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots defensive end Jerel Worthy today in lieu of DeVito’s injury, and it also appears they are working out other players, presumably at least one linebacker.
Worthy was once one of the best players in college football during his time at Michigan State, but the disruptive 3-4 DE has been a disappointment in the NFL after being touted in the 2012 draft. He’s barely produced since coming into the league, and he couldn’t crack the Patriots roster out of camp despite the fact that Bill Belichick went out of his way to trade for him. However, the caveat here is that the Patriots would have had to give a late-round pick if they kept Worthy on the roster. We’ll see if he can crack the Chiefs roster, but I like that John Dorsey and Andy Reid are at least looking into a talented DL.
