NFL Week 1: Surprise Sunday Performance for Each Team
Chicago Bears: The passing attack
I just lumped this into one “unit” as opposed to singling out one player, because it’s difficult to single out just one player (other than Santonio Holmes, really) after the Chicago Bears failed to take advantage of the Buffalo Bills weakened secondary with Stephon Gilmore out. The Bears high-octane passing attack looked far too ordinary, as Jay Cutler threw two picks in a mediocre display. Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery put up some yardage, but the elite WR duo should have done a whole lot more. The most disappointing player was Holmes, who hurt his team and looked like the New York Jets version of Holmes rather than the guy receiving plenty of praise from the Bears for his work this offseason.
Minnesota Vikings: Hey Josh Robinson, I didn’t know you could play
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Josh Robinson looked lost in coverage last season, as the continually disappointing corner couldn’t make good on his pre-draft hype and turned in a dismal 2013 season, especially when asked to play the slot. But yesterday, Robinson looked like a beast, as he was instrumental in the Vikings dominant win over the overmatched St. Louis Rams, who don’t have a legit quarterback after losing Shaun Hill to an unspecified thigh injury. Robinson notched a PD and a pick in an amazing game, and Vikings fans will hope that he can build off of that and have a surprising breakout season after a very surprising Week 1.
