Washington Redskins have not shown interest in LaMichael James

Despite the offseason injury to backup running back Kendall Hunter, the San Francisco 49ers felt comfortable enough with their current depth at the position to release backup RB and return specialist LaMichael James yesterday- a day after their easy victory over a Dallas Cowboys team that looked lost on both sides of the ball. The running back duo of Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde looks terrific, as both are excellent pure rushers, with Gore providing some top-notch pass protection and solid pass-catching to boot.

  • James hasn’t received any known interest on the waiver wire at this point in time, but I’m sure someone has claimed the former Oregon Ducks star. He isn’t a great rusher by any means, but James has lightning bolts for legs and is one of the more explosive return specialists in the league. At just 24, the formerly elite college athlete has upside to go with some decent production to lean back on in his first two season.

ESPN NFL Nation’s John Keim reports that the Redskins have not shown any interest in James since his release from the 49ers, and it’s unclear if they will show interest at any point. The Redskins elected to leave explosive RBs Lache Seastrunk and injury-prone Chris Thompson off the roster, so some were wondering if James could be a more talented player to fill that void. He also has some injury questions on his hands, and it looks like the Redskins like more reliable backs such as Silas Redd and Roy Helu.
