Fantasy Football Week 2 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Quarterbacks
By Matt Reed
Sometimes you get dealt a bad hand in life, and that same sad truth can be said for playing fantasy football. Maybe your team didn’t have the best draft, or you lost someone like Ben Tate for a couple of weeks, due to injury. I’m here to give you some players that need to be starting this week, as well as guys that aren’t necessarily worth the risk in Week 2.
Quarterbacks
Start of the Week: Jake Locker vs Cowboys
In Week 1, against a very good Chiefs defense, Jake Locker went into Arrowhead and dismantled Kansas City. Things look bright for the kid, so long as he stays healthy. He’s got Dallas this week. Sounds tasty, right?
Start ‘Em
Andy Dalton vs Falcons
Despite the Bengals kicking five field goals in the first half of team’s Week 1 win over Baltimore, Dalton finished with 18 fantasy points. The Falcons don’t have an exceptional defensive unit, and Dalton has A.J. Green. You do the math.
Andrew Luck vs Eagles
Luck led his team back from 0-24 in Week 1, against a revamped Denver Broncos defense. The Eagles aren’t a slouch defensively, but they did concede 17 points in the first half against Chad Henne last week. Luck is a lot better than Chad Henne.
Nick Foles vs Colts
That being said about Luck, Foles will bounce back from a poor performance in Week 1. Peyton and Luck traded blows on the opening Sunday night game, and now it’s two third year quarterbacks who get to do the same in the Monday night showcase.
Sleeper of the Week: Ben Roethlisberger vs Ravens
Big Ben was one of the biggest surprises of Week 1, putting up 17 fantasy points against a talented Cleveland defense. Baltimore isn’t as scary as they once were defensively. The game is on the road, but Andy Dalton just went into M&T Bank Stadium, putting up over 300 yards in the process. Ben Roethlisberger can certainly do that with Heath Miller, Antonio Brown, and the emergence of Markus Wheaton.
Sit ‘Em
Phillip Rivers vs Seahawks
The fact that he’s playing Seattle should be all that needs to be said here. They are hands down, the best defense in the NFL, and in fantasy football. Don’t play any quarterbacks against this defense.
Tony Romo vs Titans
Three picks in the first quarter last week doesn’t really sit well with me. Romo is typically a good fantasy quarterback, but this is a good Tennessee defense. He won’t have the support of DeMarco Murray either this week.
Eli Manning vs Cardinals
While one Manning brother continues to put up huge numbers in Denver, the other is struggling mightily. Can you guess which one? The Giants offense looked stagnant against the Lions, and the matchup isn’t much better, if at all, in Week 2. Until I see Eli throw for at least two touchdowns, I’m not considering him as even a top-20 fantasy quarterback.
