Shaun Hill did not practice today
The St. Louis Rams aren’t strangers to receiving unfortunate injuries, with the worst ones coming to Sam Bradford, who would be a solid starter at the position for the Rams and likely their franchise QB if he didn’t tear his ACL for a second straight year. Shaun Hill is one of the game’s best backups and was a terrific signing and upgrade to Kellen Clemens, but he also went down in the team’s Week 1 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. That blowout loss was bad enough, but the biggest blows were probably the injuries to Hill and Chris Long, who hit the short-term injured reserve yesterday and underwent surgery on his ankle this morning.

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Nick Wagoner, Hill was among several notable Rams to miss practice today, and that means he is tentatively not expected to play in this week’s game against Alterraun Verner, who was excellent in his first game with his new team, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary. Hill’s practice status tomorrow will dictate his gameday status, barring a shock move from Jeff Fisher.
Austin Davis is the next-man-up, though Case Keenum is also lurking if Davis struggles against the Buccaneers, who boast two elite players in the front seven in Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David. Hill can move an offense with some efficiency (though he didn’t exactly play well in Week 1 before leaving with the injury), so here’s to hoping that his thigh injury won’t keep him out for much longer, though details are incredibly scant at this moment in time.
