Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery listed questionable

The Chicago Bears have a huge game ahead of them on Sunday Night Football against one of the elite teams in the San Francisco 49ers, and they have a good opportunity to put up some points if the 49ers secondary isn’t fully healthy. But the Bears aren’t exactly heading into this week with a clean bill of health, as offensive linemen Matt Slauson and Roberto Garza have been ruled out, though top center Brian De La Puente is a superior player to Garza anyway. In any case, the two biggest injuries are the ones to the star wide receiver duo of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, as they both missed practice yesterday.

  • ESPN Chicago’s Jeff Dickerson reports that Marshall, who hoped to test out his ankle today, did not practice today either and is listed as questionable on the injury report. His status is in doubt without any sort of practice this week, so his ankle will be a big storyline on Sunday, as he could be a game-time decision. Marshall is one of those elite veterans who doesn’t need to practice in a week to play, so his injury status is evaluated differently than, say, a good-but-not-great wide receiver. At this point, though, Marshall is a toss-up with a slightly better chance at playing than not.

It looks like Alshon Jeffery should be out there on Sunday night, as Dickerson reports that he returned to practice today, even though he’s also listed as questionable on the Bears injury report. Jeffery caught five passes for 71 yards in last week’s upset overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills, and he’ll be hoping for bigger numbers this week, though 71 receiving yards isn’t shabby.
