Cecil Shorts listed doubtful

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts missed the team’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury, and it looked like he would be able to return this week against the Washington Redskins after practicing on Wednesday. However, Shorts missed Thursday’s practice with an apparent setback on his hamstring, as Gus Bradley stated some concern for his star wideout’s status. Shorts didn’t practice today either, and it looks like there’s just about no chance of him taking advantage of the Redskins porous secondary this week.

  • According to the Florida Times Union’s Ryan O’Halloran, the Jaguars have listed Shorts as doubtful for this week’s game, which isn’t surprising given that he missed practice today after being a concerning mid-week downgrade. Shorts isn’t even a lock to play in Week 3, so he needs to be monitored closely. Although Shorts is a very talented wideout and a legit No. 1 in this league, he’s become a pretty sizeable injury risk for the Jaguars from week-to-week.

On the bright side, Jaguars rookie wideout Marqise Lee is only listed as probable after suffering a minor hamstring injury, so he’s a lock to start across from Allen Hurns, who could entrench himself as the Jaguars true No. 1 receiver with another monster game. Hurns has already become one of the stories of the season, and that’s always a joy to see.
