DeAngelo Williams questionable, Ron Rivera ‘concerned’

facebooktwitterreddit

Carolina Panthers feature back DeAngelo Williams had  a solid outing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers front seven, recording 72 yards on 14 carries in the team’s Week 1 victory. But D-Will suddenly missed practice yesterday with a thigh injury, so it looks like he might miss this week’s game against the Detroit Lions. Williams didn’t practice today either, so it looks like he will most likely be out, especially since it looks like he suffered the injury during practice.

  • According to the Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Jones, Williams has been listed questionable on the Panthers official injury report, and that might actually be on the generous side. Head coach Ron Rivera stated that he is “concerned” about the status of his best RB, and he indicated that Williams wasn’t able to show enough burst while running.

Jonathan Stewart will likely lead the way for the Panthers ground game against a tough Lions run defense, with fullback Mike Tolbert and preseason standout Fozzy Whittaker getting some carries in the mix. Stewart has plenty of talent, but he did nothing against the Buccaneers with just 20 yards on nine carries. He’s as inconsistent as they come, but he did look like the J-Stew of old during the preseason.

Williams still has a fighting chance of playing this week, but I would pencil him in on the inactive list until further notice, especially if you are a fantasy football player.
