The Atlanta Falcons had an impressive offensive display of force on Sunday in an impressive 37-34 overtime victory over the rival New Orleans Saints, and the Falcons are back as playoff contenders with Julio Jones and Roddy White fully “back” to supply Matt Ryan with the necessary ammunition to engineer one of the league’s elite offenses. Ryan absolutely dominated the New Orleans Saints tough secondary, but he’ll have to continue at this pace in order to make up for deficiencies elsewhere on the roster, particularly on the offensive line and at outside linebacker (pass rush).

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Vaughn McClure, Falcons star wide receiver Roddy White stated that the team’s goal is to score 30 points per game, “That’s our goal. From the start of the offseason through training camp, we always told ourselves we have to score 30 a game. That’s what we want to do. It’s hard to score 30 in the NFL, I’m trying to tell you. I mean, we’ve got the personnel to do it.
Last season, only the Denver Broncos averaged more than 30 points per game, and they put up a whopping 37.9 thanks to the best offense in NFL history. By comparison, the Falcons were seventh in the league at their peak in 2012 with a little over 26 points per game, while the New England Patriots and Broncos had over 30 respectively.
White is a huge part of the Falcons high-powered offense, and he caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. The possession receiver, White is a great complement to the beastly Julio Jones, and it looks like Devin Hester is becoming a very good, explosive threat on offense in addition to providing some elite ability on returns. Although White’s goal is a lofty one, it’s not completely unachievable, though a highly successful offense in Atlanta depends on health and the improvements made by the running game.
