Cecil Shorts makes trip to Washington

The Jacksonville Jaguars will most likely roll with rookie wide receivers Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns for a second straight week, as Cecil Shorts is listed doubtful on the team’s injury report with a hamstring injury that kept him out of the team’s Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, which began with a fairytale first half. Hurns was the star of the preseason and the regular season opener, and it’s within reason for him to turn into the story of the season by eventually supplanting Shorts as the top guy in the offense.

  • I don’t think that’s going to happen, though, but that’s because I have a huge amount of respect for Shorts’s game.Unfortunately, the guy has major issues staying healthy, and there’s a chance this hamstring injury could linger for several more weeks; he isn’t exactly a guarantee for Week 3.

On the bright side, Shorts hasn’t been completely ruled out despite not practicing at all this week, and the Florida Times Union’s Ryan O’Halloran reports that Shorts has, as expected, made the trip to Washington with the rest of his teammates. That said, the fact that he hasn’t been ruled out is a mere formality at this point, because it wouldn’t be reasonable to expect him to play this week. The Redskins porous secondary should afford either Lee or Hurns to have a big game, though Shorts won’t be healthy enough to play and benefit.
