The Chiefs were one of the big surprises of a year ago. But they started the 2014 year with a loss in week one to the Tennessee Titans. They have a massive division matchup with the Denver Broncos in week two. Against the Titans the Chiefs couldn’t get anything going offensively. Alex Smith had his worst game since he became a Chief throwing for one touchdown and three interceptions. He also led Kansas City in rushing yards, which is particularly disturbing for Chiefs fans. Jamaal Charles had no running room against the Titans and ran for an abysmal 19 yards on an explicably low seven rushes. Andy Reid admitted to negligence as to why Charles didn’t get more carries. Expect a ton of carries for him against the Broncos.

Denver pulled out a gritty win over the Indianapolis Colts in week one and the Chiefs do not want to fall any further behind the Broncos in the standings — the only team in the division that won in week one. Peyton Manning’s offense isn’t going to lose many games this year and Kansas City can’t afford to drop this game if they want to win the AFC West. Alex Smith can’t have a worse game than he had in week one and either can the Chiefs’ offense. If Kansas City loses, it’ll be in as big a whole as a team can be in what’s sure to be a difficult division race for them.
