Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson lead Green Bay Packers to comeback win

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers didn’t get off to the best start today against the New York Jets, and it looked like we were in for a major shock when the Packers went down 21-3. The Jets secondary did a nice job of stopping an Oakland Raiders team that was unwilling to draw up real passing plays in Week 1, and we knew their luck was bound to run out this week against Green Bay. However, the Packers couldn’t seem to get much going behind an offensive line that was getting ripped apart by the likes of breakout star Quinton Coples, while Geno Smith was playing his best game as a Jet.

  • Then the polar vortex occurred, but this restored things to levels of normalcy. The Packers put together an excellent final six or so minutes in the first half to cut the Jets lead to 21-16. Nick Folk tied things up at 24 in the third quarter, but Jordy Nelson burned the Jets on the right sideline, Rodgers hit him up between the corner and safety, and the Nelson-Rodgers deep combo on play-action passes yielded an 80-yard touchdown that proved to be the winner in the 31-24 contest. Dee Milliner had no chance.

After a surprisingly slow start to the game, the best QB in the NFL finished with a whopping 346 passing yards, lighting up the Jets secondary with three touchdowns and no picks. Randall Cobb and rookie Davante Adams did some nice things, but it was clearly the Jordy Nelson show, as the elite, extended wideout and Rodgers’s favorite target notched a ridiculous 209 receiving yards on just nine catches. Even if you take out that huge touchdown, Nelson still had 129 receiving yards on eight catches.

I absolutely love it when Rodgers and Nelson go to work, because you can never count them out. And hey, the Packers defense did a great job of tightening up on Geno, as the second-year pro looked more like the guy we’ve become used to watching, as he finished with a poor 50% completion percentage after looking very lively for most of the first half.
