Adrian Peterson will have status addressed Monday
Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was unsurprisingly deactivated for this week’s big game against the New England Patriots, as he was indicted in a child injury case. Peterson used a switch to beat his child, leading to excessive injuries on the child’s leg. It’s a nuanced case with details still developing, but the league is expected to drop the hammer on AP for injuring a child and for committing a crime that is in a category of crimes the league knows it has to crack down on.

In any case, we’re all still waiting to hear more details of the case and more details from the Vikings. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Peterson could be deactivated for more than just this week’s game, and that would be based on what “info” the Vikings get. So yeah, this shouldn’t surprise anyway. Per ESPN NFL Nation’s Kevin Seifert, Vikings GM Rick Spielman told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that the team doesn’t want to make any “knee-jerk” reactions, but “all options are on the table”. It’s a diplomatic response from a measured GM, and it basically means that the Vikings won’t move quickly but are ready to suspend Peterson for as long as it takes. And oh yeah, “all options” could mean releasing or trading, but let’s not get carried away here.
Per “several league sources” close to CBS Sports’s Jason La Canfora, the Vikings are expected to address AD’s status on Monday with more details, and I would highly recommend clicking on the piece for all of the courses of action Spielman and the Vikes can take under the CBA.
