Allen Hurns on crutches with ankle injury

The Jacksonville Jaguars played an incredible first half in Week 1 before the Philadelphia Eagles woke up and dispatched the Jags in a 34-17 contest, and Gus Bradley’s rebuilding squad followed that dismal second half up with a dismal game against Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins, getting trounced 41-10. Talented rookie wide receiver Allen Robinson notched 75 receiving yards on just four receptions and Marcedes Lewis had two catches for 71 yards and a TD, but nobody else did anything on offense, with Toby Gerhart getting nothing going on the ground behind arguably the NFL’s most ineffective line.

  • ESPN NFL Nation’s Michael DiRocco reports that No. 1 wide receiver Allen Hurns was spotted walking by with crutches, and he and TE Lewis reportedly sustained ankle injuries in today’s loss. If Hurns is out against the rival Indianapolis Colts next week and Cecil Shorts, who was inactive for a second straight week, can’t make it back from his hamstring injury, then it could be another awful game for this team.

Hurns didn’t look like a No. 1 receiver at all today with just two receptions for 13 yards on six targets, though second-round pick Marqise Lee was just as bad. The Jaguars need Shorts to get healthy, and they need to hope that Hurns’s ankle injury isn’t serious. It’s early, but I wouldn’t expect the talented UDFA to play next week, unless if the crutches are very precautionary.
