Austin Davis fully expected to start?
The St. Louis Rams are already down to their backup quarterback as their starting QB, and it looks like they will end up starting their third-string QB today against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Shaun Hill went down with a thigh injury in last week’s embarrassing loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Hill still has a fair shot at playing and will be tested during pre-game warm-ups, but it looks like Austin Davis has the better chance of starting this week.

You can strengthen the chances of Davis starting today against Tampa Bay, as ace beat writer Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that he is “fully expecting” Davis to draw the start today, meaning that Hill is fully expected to be out. It’s a strong statement, but it’s one that nobody should be taking lightly; Davis is clearly the one with the better shot of playing.
In relief of Hill last week, Davis was 16-23 for 192 yards, no TDs, and a pick with a solid average of 8.3 yards per attempt. He actually outplayed Hill last week, so he might be the better option anyway at this point. Hill is one of the best backups in the game, but Davis has better tools and more experience with the Rams organization after signing on as a backup in late October last year.
