Carson Palmer out, Drew Stanton will start
It looked like Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was tentatively expected to play in today’s game against the New York Giants, but that’s all out the window now, as he’s evidently suffered a setback. Palmer was expected to have his throwing shoulder tested out during pre-game warm-ups to see if he could start, and it looks like the Cardinals have decided to inactivate him after his shoulder didn’t hold up.

Per a source close to the NFL Networks’ Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals did test out Palmer’s shoulder, but it didn’t look “good” (Rapoport previously reported that Palmer would start if his shoulder looked “good” during warm-ups). Therefore, Bruce Arians will go with backup Drew Stanton as the starter, and the Cardinals could be in for a rough day if the Giants secondary doesn’t lay an egg for a second straight week.
Some reported that Palmer was a little bit more likely to play than not, while others stated that he only had a “50-50” chance of playing today against the Giants after being limited with his throwing all week long. It’s a big blow to the Cardinals, as most of us believed Palmer would be able to gut it out in the end. Michael Floyd should still have a nice game (Stanton can sling it despite not being accurate), but Andre Ellington will be the top guy on the Cardinals offense with the starting QB ruled out.
