Carson Palmer expected to play, barring setback

Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer didn’t practice at all this past week due to a “nerve thing”, as termed by head coach Bruce Arians, in his shoulder. Palmer is currently listed questionable for today’s game against a tough New York Giants defense, which will surely bounce back from last week’s nightmare of a game against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Palmer, on the other hand, helped lead the Cardinals to an 18-17 comeback victory on MNF, as he completed roughly 64% of his passes  for just over 300 yards.

  • Even though he didn’t practice this week and is questionable, Palmer is expected to play today against the Giants, though he will have to look “good” in pre-game warm-ups, thus technically making him a game-time decision. According to Cardinals official site beat writer Darren Urban, we should expect Palmer to play today, barring a setback, since he sounded optimistic on Friday and hasn’t suffered any sort of setback since then.

Urban is one of the best on the Cardinals local beat, so his confirmation of Rapoport’s report makes it clear that Palmer is expected to play. I think most of us figured that the veteran QB would play through the pain, and he is one of those established players that doesn’t need practice, especially since he’s the starting quarterback. Hopefully he doesn’t suffer from a significant amount of ill-effects of the injury and can play at a solid level against Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Prince Amukamara, and Co.
