Carson Palmer expected to start, will be tested in warm-ups

Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer is at the stage of his career where he’s going to have nagging injury issues with his throwing arm, and he’s dealt with elbow or shoulder injuries for a couple of years now. Palmer played through an issue near the end of last year, and he has what’s been termed as a “nerve thing” in his shoulder. I’ve always expected Palmer to play today against the New York Giants secondary, which has much more talent than they showed in a blowout MNF loss to the New York Giants.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Cardinals expect Palmer to play through the pain today, and most of us believe that a tough veteran QB like Palmer will do just that. However, the Cards will check him out pre-game to make sure that he’s throwing well and his shoulder isn’t bothering him too much. It would be terrible news if Palmer were listed as an inactive and Drew Stanton started, so we’ll be holding our breaths.

Palmer went 24-37 with 304 passing yards in last week’s 18-17 comeback victory on Monday Night Football, and we’ll see if he looks beat up today. This is honestly a game-time decision, because there is a real chance he ends up being ruled out. There’s no doubt that a veteran QB like Palmer doesn’t need to practice in order to start on gameday, but that’s one thing going against him.
