Cecil Shorts Injury: Jacksonville Jaguars WR inactive
Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver Cecil Shorts missed last week’s 34-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury, and the injury-prone (it’s pretty much gotten to that point, sadly) wideout was always expected to miss this week’s game against the Washington Redskins with said injury. Although Shorts created some optimism when he returned to practice on Wednesday, that optimism quickly dissipated when he became a mid-week downgrade by missing practice on Thursday. Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley and others expressed obvious concern regarding his status, and his absence from practice on Friday essentially sealed his fate.

Still, the Jaguars didn’t rule him out, even though they pretty much said “he won’t play” by listing him doubtful. Shorts was a game-time decision today and worked out with the other Jaguars after making the trip, but it became obvious that it would only be a matter of time before the Jags ruled him out. Well, the Florida Times Union’s Ryan O’Halloran reports that Shorts has officially been named an inactive today against the Redskins.
This confirms what we’ve always expected, and it also confirms that at least one of Marqise Lee or Allen Hurns will eat today. Hurns will line up as the team’s No. 1 receiver, and he’s been so impressive that he’ll still have a huge role in the offense even when Shorts come back. In fact, he has a good shot at eventually becoming the No. 1 guy by the time the season ends, though I expect him to play second-fiddle to a healthy Shorts.
