A.J. Green has turf toe

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green looked poised to lock up with Atlanta Falcons talented young cornerback Desmond Trufant today, but he ended up leaving the game early with a toe injury in the first quarter after initially being questionable to return. Green aggravated a foot injury that caused him to miss practice on Thursday, but it didn’t seem like the foot ailment would be an issue at all for Green, who returned to practice on Friday and seemed fully healthy and ready to pace the Bengals offense this week.

  • Per a source close to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, A.J. Green has a turf toe and will have more tests on the injury soon. He isn’t a lock to face Jason McCourty, who also suffered an injury today, and the Tennessee Titans in Week 3, because turf toe injuries are incredibly difficult to predict and can linger (Matt Ryan can attest to this). Hopefully tests show that it’s a minor issue, because the Bengals can’t afford to miss Green for more than just the Titans game (the Titans, of course, were woefully ineffective today).

Despite Green’s injury, it was an excellent game for the Bengals, as they blew out the Atlanta Falcons in stunning fashion today with a 24-10 victory. Giovani Bernard and Andy Dalton had an easy time racking up yardage on a porous Falcons defense, while Ryan had a surprisingly terrible performance a week after earning our Player of the Week award.
