Adrian Peterson will return to team, expected to play this week

The Minnesota Vikings are coming off of a 30-7 drubbing at the hands of the New England Patriots, as Matt Cassel, who will still start after an unsurprising confirmation from head coach Mike Zimmer, was absolutely horrendous in a four-interception game, while the Patriots offense had their way with the Vikings. Adrian Peterson, of course, was inactive after being indicted in a child injury case, and the Vikings stated that they would address his status further this morning with all options “on the table”.

  • Well, the official statement is out on the Vikings official site, and they have decided to welcome Peterson back to the team after I initially thought that they would either deactivate him for one more game or basically make a statement that buys them more time. Instead, they have announced that they are expecting him to play this week against the 0-2 New Orleans Saints, though nobody is fooled by that record.

I’m sure plenty of people will be upset by the Vikings decision to let him back in, but maybe they have received some positive information regarding the case. Moreover, it’s the NFL’s job to discipline Peterson and not the team’s, so the Vikings probably felt like their self-imposed suspension (especially considering how important Peterson is to the team, since, you know, the NFL isn’t a democracy) of one game was sufficient.

You can read the statement if you’d like, but it’s honestly a waste of time, as it’s basically empty space filled by a whole bunch of word salad, which is honestly about what you’d expect.

Adrian Peterson will, per the Vikings, fully participate in meetings and practices this week, and it makes most of us hope the league comes down on hard on him. Because at this point, details and real info are hard to come by, especially given how vague the Vikings statement is.
